Factors to Consider Before Buying Skin Foundation
It is quite remarkable and overwhelming at the same time that we have so many options for skin foundation to choose from. The customizable option has also made it dynamic but also puts us in a spot. You either leave the store with the best product that elevates your look or it could be just the opposite scenario. Therefore, how does one go about buying a foundation? Here are some useful tips:
Finding the right match
Remember that the ultimate goal of the foundation is to match your skin tone and should look just like your skin, except that it should look even better. One way of finding the right match is to test the foundation on your skin. Most people use the forearm to test the shade. However, if you notice carefully, forearms tends to be few shades darker than the face. Therefore, it is imperative that you try the shade on chest. It is also good to note foundation oxidizes with wear and over a few hours it tends to get darker and it would be wise to factor this too. If the store does not permit you to test on your chest, use the shade option on your face. Work your way from the centre of the face to the cheeks and all the way to the hairline. If your neck is lighter than your face, choose a shade lighter than your face so that it matches.
Just go with the undertones
Every skin has its own undertones and it would be a bad idea to fight against it. If you have a warm complexion, opt for shades that has yellow undertones and if your complexion has a cool complexion, opt for foundation that are pink. The third option would be to stick to neutral shades if you have any doubts.
Decide the coverage required
Figure out how much coverage you actually need. There are sheer to medium to lighter coverages available in the market and it certainly makes sense to pick up a lighter version if you are not sure yet of what kind of coverage you might need. Light to medium coverage is always preferred if you are a novice because it helps in taking calculated risk. On the other hand, if you are one of those who prefer not to do any mid-day touch ups to your foundation or have any kind of discoloration and acne, opt for a full-coverage foundation.
Skin type
Never pick a foundation that does not go with the basic nature of your skin. That is, if you have oil skin, there is no point in going for something that is oil-based because over the course of the day, the foundation would only emit more oils. Matte foundations are rather suitable for combination to oily types of skin. Dewy foundations could be used for those who have dry skin.
Ensure to take your time in testing before picking the shade. Test it under natural lighting too.
